Our Research

  • Biomacromolecule Based Photoelectrode

Utilizing an innovative photoelectrochemical bioconjugation strategy, we have developed a versatile platform for constructing biomacromolecular materials with enhanced functionalities. In particular, we achieved the site-selective functionalization of silk fibroin with phenothiazine moieties, affording photoactive materials capable of promoting benzylic C–H functionalization under mild conditions.

  • Photoredox/Electrochemical Bioconjugation

Bioconjugation reactions have revolutionized the modification of peptides and proteins, allowing for enhanced functionality and diverse applications. In our recent endeavors, we have focused on harnessing the power of visible-light induced photoredox catalysis and electrochemical catalysis reactions to unlock novel possibilities in synthetic and bioconjugation chemistry. By utilizing biocompatible energy inputs, we have made significant strides in the field of peptide and protein modification.

  • Biomimetic Catalysis

Enzymes play a crucial role in nature’s biocatalysis. Inspired by these processes, we focus on photoelectrocatalysis for the sustainable synthesis of bioactive molecules, pharmaceuticals, and functional materials. Our bio-inspired photoelectrochemical platform enables efficient C–N bond formation, the synthesis of β-N-substituted enaminonitriles, and site-selective bioconjugation of proteins and advanced materials.
